Caithness FHS, An excellent ‘neighbouring’ Website

Central Scotland FHS to serve the needs of those interested in family history who lived in what was then Central Region.*

Dumfries and Galloway FHS Dumfries & Galloway Family History Society was founded in 1987 to encourage the study of family history, genealogy and the local history of the South West of Scotland.

East Ayrshire FHS The area covered by East Ayrshire comprises the former districts of Kilmarnock & Loudoun and Cumnock & Doon Valley,

Fife FHS An excellent FHS Website covering the Kingdom of Fife

Glasgow and West of Scotland FHS A comprehensive FHS based in Strathclyde*

Highland FHS covers the Highland counties of Caithness, Sutherland, Ross-shire, Inverness-shire, Nairnshire and the northern parishes of Argyle-shire down to the Sound of Mull and partway up Loch Linnhe

Shetland FHS The Society brings together those studying genealogy and family history in that group of islands known as Shetland

Tay Valley FHS the main centre for family history research in the Tay Valley area (the former counties of Angus, Fife, Kinross and Perthshire).

Cyndi’s List(Scotland) - The most comprehensive list of family history resources on the Internet*

Gale Digital Collection - Search many British and US Newspapers and periodicals. Free registration required

OPRs (Aberdeenshire) - An index of OPR’s that are available from the GRO Scotland and local Registrars. If you can’t find your information on Scotland’s People check here to see if the OPR exist.

OPRs (Banff) - As above

Peterhead Genealogy - Wade Buchan’s excellent resource

Scotland’s People - A must for any researcher looking for Scottish ancestors. Images of millions of BMD records are available.

Scottish Emigration Database - currently contains the records of over 21,000 passengers who embarked at Glasgow and Greenock for non-European ports
